چکیده

A semiconductor to metal transition (SMT) occurs either as a function of composition or external pressure in the TmSe-TmTe and TmSe-EuSe pseudobinary com ounds. The transition is caused by the delocalization of electrons from the 4flq shell of divalent Tm into the 5d conduction band. The divalent configuration (4f7) of the Eu ions is more stable and therefore is not involved in the SMT. A striking similarity between the SMT in TmSel-xTex as a function of x and the pressure induced SMT in SmS is observed and it is suggested that a particular combination of the electronic and elastic parameters is the factor determining the order of transition.

The Association between the Urinary Excretion of Trimethylselenonium and Trimethylsulfonium in Humans

Hydrogen sulfide is a signaling molecule that plays important roles in several physiological processes, and its methylation product trimethylsulfonium (TMS) is a natural constituent of human urine that could serve as a biomarker for hydrogen sulfide. In vitro studies showed that the enzyme indole-ethylamine N-methyltransferase (INMT) is responsible for the production of trimethylsulfonium as we...

Mobility gap in intermediate valent TmSe

– The infrared optical conductivity of intermediate valence compound TmSe reveals clear signatures for hybridization of light d-and heavy f-electronic states with m * ≈ 1.6m0 and m * ≈ 16m0, respectively. At moderate and high temperatures, the metal-like character of the heavy carriers dominate the low-frequency response while at low temperatures (TN < T < 100K) a gap-like feature is observed i...

Selenium metabolism to the trimethylselenonium ion (TMSe) varies markedly because of polymorphisms in the indolethylamine N-methyltransferase gene.

BACKGROUND Selenium is an essential element, but its metabolism in humans is not well characterized. A few small studies indicate that the trimethylselenonium ion (TMSe) is a common selenium metabolite in humans. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to elucidate the human metabolism of selenium to TMSe. DESIGN Study individuals constituted subsamples of 2 cohorts: 1) pregnant women (n = 228) and thei...

Fundamental Toxicological Sciences

To understand selenium (Se) circulation in the biosphere, the metabolism of organic Se, in particular, Se metabolites, in animals and plants should be elucidated. In this study, garlic, Allium sativum, a well-known Se accumulator with high Se metabolic ability, was hydroponically cultivated and then exposed to trimethylselenonium ion (TMSe), a urinary metabolite. Thereafter, the Se concentratio...
